Cookie Dough Ingredients

  • 1 cup softened butter (I use salted) Make sure butter is softened to room temperature.
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips Feel free to mix in different types of chocolate.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, egg, baking soda, salt, and vanilla extract until the mixture is light and fluffy—this should take about 5 minutes.
  • Gradually add the flour to the mixture and stir until everything is well combined.
  • Gently fold in the chocolate chips until they are just incorporated.

Baking

  • Drop heaping tablespoons of dough onto ungreased cookie sheets or sheets lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 9 to 11 minutes, or until the edges are just starting to brown slightly.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the sheet for a few minutes to set up, then transfer them to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Notes

Best enjoyed warm with a glass of milk. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze in a airtight container with parchment paper between layers for up to three months. To make double chocolate chip cookies, add 1/4 cup of cocoa powder to the flour.
