- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
- Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt; gradually stir into the creamed mixture.
- Fold in the chocolate chips.
- Spread half of the batter into the prepared baking dish.
- Drizzle with half of the caramel sauce.
- Spread the remaining batter over the caramel layer and drizzle with the rest of the caramel sauce.
- Use a knife to swirl the caramel into the batter lightly.
Baking
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow to cool before cutting into bars.
Notes
These bars can be enjoyed on their own or served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. They also pair beautifully with a fruit salad or hot cocoa. For a special touch, drizzle additional caramel sauce over the bars just before serving. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week or freeze for later enjoyment.
