Ingredients
  

For the bars
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure the butter is softened for a creamy texture.
  • 1 cup brown sugar For a more intense flavor, consider using brown sugar in place of granulated sugar.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Experiment with different types of chocolate chips for a unique twist.
  • 1 cup caramel sauce

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  4. Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt; gradually stir into the creamed mixture.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  6. Spread half of the batter into the prepared baking dish.
  7. Drizzle with half of the caramel sauce.
  8. Spread the remaining batter over the caramel layer and drizzle with the rest of the caramel sauce.
  9. Use a knife to swirl the caramel into the batter lightly.
Baking
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  2. Allow to cool before cutting into bars.

Notes

These bars can be enjoyed on their own or served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. They also pair beautifully with a fruit salad or hot cocoa. For a special touch, drizzle additional caramel sauce over the bars just before serving. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week or freeze for later enjoyment.
