  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg, beaten Can be substituted with 1/4 cup of applesauce for a vegan option.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Can be substituted with whole wheat flour for a healthier option.
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips Feel free to add more for extra chocolatey goodness.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork until smooth.
  • Stir the melted butter into the mashed bananas.
  • Mix in the baking soda and salt.
  • Stir in the sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract.
  • Mix in the flour until just incorporated, then fold in the chocolate chips.
  • Pour the batter into a buttered 4×8 inch loaf pan.

Baking

  • Bake for 60-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow to cool before slicing.

Notes

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread is delicious on its own, but can be served with butter or honey. Pairs well with coffee or tea. To store, wrap tightly and keep at room temperature for 3-4 days or freeze slices in an airtight container for up to 2 months.
