Ingredients
  

For the Chow Mein Sauce
  • 4 Tbsp oyster sauce Adjust to taste
  • 3 Tbsp low sodium soy sauce For a lighter flavor
  • 3 Tbsp light sesame oil Not toasted
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 Tbsp corn starch
  • 1 Tbsp granulated sugar
Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb chicken breast, boneless, skinless Cut into bite-sized strips
  • 2 cups cabbage, chopped
  • 1 large carrot, julienned
  • 1/2 batch green onions, chopped For garnish
  • 12 oz chow mein noodles, uncooked
  • 3 Tbsp oil for cooking Such as olive oil

Method
 

Chow Mein Sauce Preparation
  1. In a small mixing bowl, whisk together oyster sauce, granulated sugar, sesame oil, soy sauce, chicken broth, and cornstarch until smooth. Set aside.
Noodle Preparation
  1. Following package instructions, cook chow mein noodles until al dente. Drain and rinse with cold water to stop further cooking. Set aside.
Cooking the Chicken and Vegetables
  1. Heat oil in a large wok or skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the chicken strips and sauté until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, add julienned carrots, chopped cabbage, and pressed garlic. Stir-fry for a few minutes until the vegetables soften.
Combine Ingredients
  1. Return the cooked chicken and noodles to the pan with the sautéed vegetables.
  2. Pour the prepared chow mein sauce over the top. Stir everything together and cook for another 2 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat, garnish with chopped green onions, and serve hot.

Notes

For best flavor, marinate chicken in the sauce for 15-30 minutes before cooking. Experiment with colorful vegetables and protein alternatives like shrimp or tofu for variety.
