  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature Ensure butter is at room temperature for best mixing.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light-brown sugar Brown sugar helps create a chewier texture.
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs

Mix-ins

  • 2 cups semisweet and/or milk chocolate chips For added flavor, consider using a mix of chocolate chips.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
  • In a bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda; set aside.
  • In a large bowl, using a mixer, beat the butter and sugars together on medium-high speed until light and fluffy.
  • Add the salt, vanilla, and eggs; mix until combined.
  • Gradually add the flour mixture, mixing just until combined.
  • Stir in the chocolate chips.

Baking

  • Drop dough by rounded tablespoons onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden but the centers are soft.
  • Let cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

To store cookies, place them in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week. For long-term storage, freeze cookies in a freezer-safe bag for up to three months.
