Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- In a skillet, cook the Italian sausage over medium heat until browned and fully cooked. Use a spatula to break it into small pieces, draining any excess grease.
- Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface, forming a large rectangle.
- Spread the marinara sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a border around the edges.
- Sprinkle the cooked sausage on top of the sauce, followed by a generous layer of shredded mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log.
- Place the log seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush the top of the log with the beaten egg for that golden finish.
Baking
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbling.
- Allow the log to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Notes
Slice into thick pinwheels and serve with a garden salad or garlic bread. Store leftovers wrapped tightly for up to 3 days in the fridge, or freeze before baking for up to 2 months.
