  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Wet Ingredients and Toppings

  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup cold buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt (for topping)

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, garlic powder, salt, and cayenne pepper.
  • Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese.
  • In another bowl, combine the cold buttermilk and melted butter.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  • Drop spoonfuls of the dough onto the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and brush with melted butter and sprinkle with garlic salt and parsley. Serve warm.

Notes

For an extra cheesy flavor, add more cheddar, or mix in different cheeses like pepper jack. Avoid overmixing the dough to keep the biscuits light and fluffy. Brush the tops with garlic butter just before serving for an added burst of flavor. Use fresh herbs like chives or scallions for a unique twist. Experiment with different spices to create your perfect combination.
