Ingredients

For the Pretzels
  • 6 cups pretzel twists
For the Toffee
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
Optional Toppings
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips For drizzle (optional)
  • Sea salt For sprinkling (optional)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Spread pretzels evenly on the prepared baking sheet.
Making the Toffee
  1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Stir in brown sugar, corn syrup, and salt. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring constantly.
  3. Let it boil without stirring for 4-5 minutes until the mixture reaches a deep amber color and thickens.
  4. Remove from heat and quickly stir in the baking soda (the mixture will bubble up).
  5. Pour the hot toffee mixture evenly over the pretzels and spread gently with a spatula.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes until bubbly.
  2. Remove from oven and let cool completely on the baking sheet.
Finishing Touches
  1. If desired, melt chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring between each until smooth.
  2. Drizzle melted chocolate over the cooled toffee pretzels and sprinkle lightly with sea salt.
  3. Let chocolate set at room temperature or in the refrigerator before breaking into pieces.
