  • 4 cups French bread, cut into chunks Use day-old bread for best results.
  • 2 cups milk Can substitute half and half for richer taste.
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup sugar Feel free to adjust sugar based on taste.
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup raisins (optional)
  • Butter (for greasing the baking dish)

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish with butter.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined.
  • Add the bread chunks and raisins (if using) to the mixture, and stir until the bread is evenly coated.

Baking

  • Pour the bread mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  • Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the custard is set and the top is golden brown.
  • Let it cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm!

Notes

Bread pudding is best served warm. Add toppings like vanilla ice cream or caramel sauce for extra flavor. Can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
