Ingredients

Pizza Base

  • 1 batch Pizza Dough A thick and fluffy Sicilian-style crust serves as the base. Store-bought or homemade dough works well.

Main Toppings

  • 1 lb Ground Beef Seasoned to mimic the flavor of a classic Big Mac. Substitute with ground turkey or plant-based alternatives.
  • 2 cups Mozzarella Cheese Melts beautifully, offering that gooey experience. Any melting cheese, like provolone or cheddar, fits too.
  • 1 cup Lettuce Crisp romaine or iceberg provides crunch. Spinach for a twist.
  • 1/2 cup Pickles Tangy and sweet, adding that signature zip. Dill cucumbers work wonderfully as well.

Special Sauce

  • 1/2 cup Special Sauce A mix of mayo, ketchup, mustard, and sweet pickle relish creates that iconic flavor. Store-bought burger sauce is an easy alternative.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Mix the pizza dough according to package or recipe instructions. Allow it to rise until it doubles in size, about 1 to 2 hours.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain any excess grease.
  • Add salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder to the beef to enhance its flavor. Stir and let cool slightly.
  • Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.
  • On a parchment-lined baking sheet, spread the dough into a large rectangle, aiming for about ¾-inch thick.

Assembly and Cooking

  • Spread a generous layer of special sauce across the dough.
  • Evenly distribute the seasoned ground beef over the sauce.
  • Add a layer of mozzarella cheese, making sure to cover the beef thoroughly.
  • Place the pizza in the oven (or on the heated pizza stone) and bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the cheese bubbles invitingly.
  • Once the pizza is out of the oven, quickly sprinkle the lettuce and pickles over the top before slicing.
  • Serve hot, accompanied by extra special sauce for dipping. Enjoy!

Notes

The key to a great Sicilian pizza is pre-baking the dough for a few minutes before adding toppings if you desire a crispier base.
