Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure butter is softened but not melted.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
Mix-ins and Decorating
  • 1 cup mini chocolate chips or holiday M&Ms Use high-quality chocolate chips or M&Ms.
  • Colored sugar or sprinkles for decorating Experiment with different types of sprinkles.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat softened butter with granulated sugar and brown sugar until creamy and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in vanilla extract.
  5. Blend in sour cream until smooth.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  7. Fold in mini chocolate chips or holiday M&Ms.
  8. Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  9. Lightly press colored sugar or sprinkles on top of each cookie for a festive look.
Baking
  1. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are set but the centers remain soft.
  2. Remove from oven and allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Serve warm with milk or hot cocoa. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or freeze for up to three months.
