  • 4 pieces ripe tomatoes, diced into small pieces Choose ripe tomatoes for the best flavor.
  • 1 small red onion, finely chopped
  • 1-2 pieces jalapeno peppers, seeded and minced Use more for a hotter salsa.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro, roughly chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice (about 2 tablespoons) Juice of 1 lime.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Adjust to taste.
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Preparation

  • Wash and dice the tomatoes into small pieces.
  • Peel and finely chop the red onion.
  • Remove seeds from the jalapeno peppers, then mince them.
  • Mince the garlic cloves.
  • Roughly chop the fresh cilantro.
  • Put the tomatoes, red onion, jalapenos, garlic, and cilantro in a big bowl.
  • Squeeze the juice of one lime over the mix.
  • Sprinkle in the teaspoon of salt and 1/4 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper.
  • Stir everything together really well so that all the flavors mix evenly.
  • Let the salsa sit for about 30 minutes before serving so the flavors can blend together nicely.

Notes

This salsa is versatile! Serve it with tortilla chips, on tacos or burritos, or as a topping for grilled chicken. For best flavor, enjoy within 3 days. If you want a smoother texture, consider blending but keep it slightly chunky for character. Feel free to experiment by adding corn, black beans, or mango.
