Ingredients

Cookie Dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter (barely melted but not too hot) Make sure it's not too hot to avoid cooking the egg.
  • ¾ cup light brown sugar (packed)
  • cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips Can use half chips and half chunks, or just one type.
  • coarse sea salt For sprinkling on top of cookies.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, beat together the butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and apple cider vinegar until smooth.
  • Beat in the egg just until combined.
  • Mix the flour mixture into the wet mixture just until combined. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  • Using a large cookie scoop (about 2 rounded tablespoons), drop the dough about 3 inches apart onto the cookie sheet.

Baking

  • Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. The cookies should look light brown around the edges and a little underdone in the center.
  • Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle each cookie with a little sea salt.
  • Allow to sit on the sheet for 10 minutes before moving to a cooling rack.

Notes

These cookies are best served warm. Enjoy them plain, or pair them with a glass of milk or your favorite coffee. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week, or freeze in a freezer-safe bag for up to three months.
