Ingredients
  

Beef Marinade

  • 1/2 pound beef flank, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons oil for marinade
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

Vegetables

  • 1 crown broccoli, sliced
  • 1 medium onion, sliced

Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce for sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, grated
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch for sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

Cooking

  • to taste salt and pepper
  • 2 tablespoons oil for frying

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Mix the marinade ingredients (beef flank, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, baking soda, cornstarch, oil, and black pepper) and marinate the beef.
  • Blanch the broccoli in 2 cups of water with 1 tsp vinegar and set aside.

Cooking

  • In a pan, fry the beef in 1 tbsp oil over medium to high heat until brown, then set aside.
  • In the same pan, add 1 tbsp oil and sauté the onions until fragrant.
  • Prepare the sauce by mixing together soy sauce, oyster sauce, water, brown sugar, grated garlic, ginger, cornstarch, and sesame oil, then add to the onions.
  • Add the fried beef and blanched broccoli to the pan and mix well, cooking for 1-2 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and optionally add salt and pepper to taste.

Notes

Serve over rice or noodles. Pair with side dishes like vegetable spring rolls or a cucumber salad. For extra flavor, add chili oil or a spicy dipping sauce.
