Ingredients
  

For the cookie dough

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure your butter is softened at room temperature for better mixing.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt If using salted butter, consider reducing the added salt.
  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips Use high-quality chocolate chips for best flavor.
  • to taste Flaked sea salt (for sprinkling on top, optional)

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, and then mix in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined (avoid overmixing).
  • Gently fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  • Use a large cookie scoop to portion out the dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • If desired, sprinkle flaked sea salt on top of each cookie dough ball.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until the edges are golden brown and the centers are set but still soft.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week or freeze in a sealed bag for up to three months. Thaw at room temperature or heat in the microwave.
