Meatloaf Base
  • 1 lb ground beef You can substitute with ground turkey for a leaner option.
  • 1 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs Can use plain or flavored breadcrumbs.
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup ketchup Consider mixing with brown sugar for a glaze.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Add-ins
  • 6 slices bacon Cook until crispy and crumble into the mixture.
  • 1 cup diced mushrooms Sautéing the mushrooms beforehand enhances flavor.
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese Feel free to substitute with cheddar or provolone.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, ketchup, garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix until well blended.
  3. Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crispy, then crumble it into small pieces.
  4. Add the crumbled bacon, diced mushrooms, and shredded Swiss cheese to the meat mixture. Stir until everything is evenly incorporated.
  5. Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in a baking dish.
Cooking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour, or until the meatloaf reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (70°C) and the top is nicely browned.
  2. Allow the meatloaf to rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

Leftover meatloaf can be stored in the refrigerator for up to four days in an airtight container. For longer storage, freeze individual portions wrapped tightly. Reheat to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
