  • 1/2 cup sugar White or brown sugar works; brown adds richer flavor.
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil or melted butter Coconut oil can be used for a distinct taste.
  • 2 large eggs Flax eggs can be used for a vegan option.

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour Whole wheat flour can be used for a healthier option.
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt Enhances sweetness.

Optional Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or raisins Adds texture and flavor.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the applesauce, sugar, oil, and eggs until smooth.
  • In another bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, spices, and salt until well combined.
  • Gradually add the dry mixture into the wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined, avoiding over-mixing.
  • Fold in the nuts or raisins if using.
  • Pour the batter into a prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.

Baking

  • Bake for about 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Slice and enjoy!

Notes

Allow the bread to sit for a few hours or overnight for the best flavor. Store leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 days; refrigerate for longer storage.
