Ingredients
  

For the apple filling
  • 6 cups apples, peeled and sliced Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for best flavor.
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar Adjust based on apple sweetness.
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice Adds brightness and helps prevent browning.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
For the topping
  • 3/4 cup rolled oats Can substitute with gluten-free oats.
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour Can substitute with gluten-free flour.
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon Added for flavor.
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and diced Use plant-based butter for a vegan option.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with granulated sugar, lemon juice, vanilla extract, and cinnamon.
  3. Spread the apple mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  4. In another bowl, combine rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt.
  5. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture becomes crumbly.
  6. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
Baking
  1. Bake for 40–45 minutes or until topping is golden and apples are bubbling.
  2. Let cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, and drizzle with caramel if desired. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
