Preparation
- Peel and core the apples, then chop them into ½-inch pieces.
Cooking
- In a medium (3-quart) saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the chopped apples and cinnamon, stirring to combine.
- Cook while stirring occasionally until the apples begin to soften, about 4 to 5 minutes.
- Pour in the milk, add the rolled oats and a pinch of salt, stirring everything together.
- Increase heat and bring the mixture to a boil, watching closely to prevent the milk from boiling over.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and simmer the oatmeal, stirring occasionally, until the oats are tender and most of the liquid is absorbed, approximately 6 to 8 minutes.
- Stir in the maple syrup, then serve the oatmeal warm.
Notes
For a delightful breakfast experience, serve your Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal topped with a sprinkle of nuts or seeds for added crunch, or a dollop of yogurt for creaminess. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days; add a splash of milk when reheating.
