Ingredients
  

For the brat dogs
  • 4 pieces bratwurst sausages
  • 4 pieces hot dog buns Can toast on grill
  • 8 slices bacon For wrapping the bratwursts
For the glaze
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar Adjust to taste
  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • Salt and pepper To taste
Optional toppings
  • sauerkraut For serving
  • chopped onions For serving

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your grill to medium heat.
  2. In a small saucepan, pour in the apple cider, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, and apple cider vinegar. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the glaze thickens to your liking.
  3. While the glaze cooks, carefully wrap each bratwurst sausage in 2 slices of bacon, securing each end with toothpicks if necessary.
Cooking
  1. Place the bacon-wrapped bratwursts onto the grill and allow them to cook, turning occasionally for about 15-20 minutes.
  2. During the last few minutes of grilling, brush the apple cider glaze generously onto the bratwursts, allowing it to caramelize beautifully.
  3. Toast the hot dog buns rapidly on the grill until golden brown.
Serving
  1. Once everything is done, place each bacon-wrapped bratwurst into its toasted bun. Add your favorite toppings and serve hot!

Notes

Store leftover brat dogs in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or on the grill to maintain crispiness. Can freeze for up to 2 months.
