Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Feel free to use gluten-free alternatives.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar Brown sugar can also be used for a caramel note.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground nutmeg Can experiment with ginger as well.

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh apple cider The heart of the recipe.
  • 0.5 cup buttermilk Replace with regular milk or a non-dairy alternative if needed.
  • 2 large eggs Can be substituted with flax eggs for a vegan version.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease your donut pan or use a silicone mold for easy release.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients.
  • In another bowl, mix the wet ingredients until smooth.
  • Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring just until combined.
  • Spoon the batter into each donut cavity, filling them about ¾ full.
  • Place the pan in the oven and bake for about 15-18 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Let the donuts cool for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  • Toss the donuts in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon while they are still warm.
  • Serve warm with coffee or apple cider.

Notes

For an extra treat, drizzle a glaze made with powdered sugar and apple cider over the donuts after baking.
