  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 cup warm water Ensure it's warm but not hot.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil Can substitute with any cooking oil or melted butter.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  • Add the warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients.
  • Stir with a wooden spoon until a dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead briefly for about 1-2 minutes until smooth.
  • Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Optionally, score the top with a sharp knife to allow for expansion.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before slicing.

Notes

Enjoy your homemade bread fresh out of the oven! To store, let it cool completely, then wrap in plastic wrap or place in an airtight container. Keep at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
