Cookie Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure butter is at room temperature for easier mixing.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour Can be substituted with gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version.
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips Can experiment with different types of chocolate chips.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the egg and vanilla until well combined.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips.
  • Drop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
  • Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Serve warm with a glass of milk or a scoop of ice cream. For extra flavor, sprinkle a bit of sea salt on top before serving. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week, or freeze for longer storage.
